Hi, I'm Monica Ezue.
On my wedding day, the minister was hospitalized with pneumonia. My dad didn’t attend. His family didn’t come. A dark cloud hung over everything.
And I said to myself, nothing is going to stop me.
That was not faith. That was an idol talking.
I had believed for years that marriage would complete me. That being chosen was proof I was lovable. That being his wife would finally make me feel whole. I didn’t call it idolatry. I called it love.
When my marriage fell apart, I didn’t just lose a relationship. I lost the god I had made of it. I know what it is to go back to collect your things and find them in black bin bags on the doorstep.
